A delicious day with flowers, butterflies, waterfalls, Pai Canyon and much more …
Early departure from Chiang Mai to Mae Rim to visit an orchid nursery with over 100 blooming species and a butterfly garden. We continue to the Mork Fah Falls. Perfect for swimming in crystal clear mountain water. Afterwards, coffee and / or tea will take time and then enjoy nature along this winding mountain road, which eventually ends at a village of Hmong.
Then a visit (including a soda and lunch) at the historic ‘Memorial’ bridge over the Pai River built by the Japanese during World War II.
Quickly on the way to Thailand’s Grand Canyon to see how amazing a visit to the Pai Canyon is? We can spend the whole day here except when you have a high fear. Enjoy the adventurous walk over the narrow canyon trails and the wide view and take advantage of the many photo moments.
Then we continue with the minibus over the mountain ridge, foothills of the Himalayan mountain range. Of course we stop regularly to enjoy the view. In the afternoon, arrival in the town of Pai. Overnight at Baantawan Pai Guesthouse or equivalent.
A lot of highlights, thermal springs, floodlit, caves in Tham Lod cave. Happy Hour in Fern Resort
After breakfast, take a short drive to Sai Ngam’s thermal springs. The spring water is 36 degrees so perfect for a hot tub (take swimming and towel!)
Hereafter we visit villages of the Lisu and Lahu mountain tribes. Both have a very own culture, habits and uses. Especially with the colorful Lisu, this is clearly noticeable because of the rainbow-like embroidery on women’s clothes and the bamboo-made water piping systems. Around the afternoon there is a break for lunch at a local restaurant.
We continue to visit the Tham Lod cave. This huge limestone cave is hidden in the dense jungle and through the cave flows a river. Local residents ignite kerosene lamps and pull us on bamboo floats across this mysterious giant cave. Inside, there are several images from Buddhist mythology and sarcophages from the Bronze era and prehistoric cave paintings. Our guide takes us to all corners.
After that we continue to Mae Hong Son. Overnight stay here in the comfortable Fern Resort or equivalent. Do not forget the Happy Hour with views over the rice fields and mountain ridges!
Women with long necks and many folklore sights
After breakfast we start with a highlight: the visit to the Palong or Langnekken mountain tribes. By minibus we leave for the Pai River. Step into a long tail boat for a nice ride across the river, through dense jungle. On the banks, you will see a village every now and then. We stop at the Langnekken. The women in the village village Ban Nai Soi on the border with Myanmar wear bronze rings around their neck. They wear them from an early age; If they are older, the rings can weigh around 4 kilograms!
Back to Mae Hong Son where we lunch in the picturesque center. In the afternoon we stop at the famous Burmese temples, Wat Doi Kong Moo, Wat Jong Kham and the local market for a drink and sightseeing. Then depart to the airport to fly back with Kan Air to Chiang Mai. Hence transfer to your hotel. Stay tuned for this unique journey through the Himalayas mountains.
