A beautiful ride of 4 hours and we stop regularly for a cup of coffee and / or pause. In Phitsanulok you will meet your tour leader Sjon Hauser and we will visit Wat Yai with the famous Phra Phuttha Chinnawat.
Then we drive to Nakhon Thai where our bungalows are situated in the middle of the rice fields and teak plantations in a rural environment.
A great day in Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park
After the simple breakfast, we drive through the rolling hills to the Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park.
In this beautiful park, on top of a table mountain we make a short walk through evergreen forest. Then we continue through this area, which has been the basis of communist fighters for many years because of its inaccessibility. We visit, among other things, the remains of a training camp and Air Raid Shelters of the former communists.
After a short bus ride, we continue our walk to Lan Hin Pum, where we use a picnic lunch between a rotten pitch of roots. The return road runs through the Communist headquarters. In a Hmong village we stop to meet the residents. Possibly, if time is enough, we will visit a small museum and / or walk at the Lan Hin Taek. Then back to our bungalows.
A day to never forget. That’s why you book Nature Route …
This is a day we drive across northern Thailand, mainly through lowland and low hills.
On the way we see fields with storks and all kinds of arable farming. We stop regularly to see the work in the fields closer. We visit the world’s largest teak tree, Sak Yai, after which we reach the Sirikit reservoir via a fish market. We drive to the saddle dam, from which we have a magnificent view over the lake.
In the fishing village we lunch at a floating restaurant. Then take a beautiful boat trip of Pak Nai about 3 hours to the reservoir. There our minibus is waiting for us and we drive to Sao Din, a spectacular landscape of ground pillars that have arisen through the erosion. Via Wiang Sa we continue the road to Nan where we arrive in the early evening.
Dinner (not included) is available at the river, at a good Thai restaurant in the center or in the hotel.
Another day full of national parks
After breakfast we leave for Pua, thence up the mountain, to the Phu Kha national park. Here we make a number of short walks through the unique nature reserve including an old palm forest, quite a lot of game (but not sure that we see it too) and here and there forest giants that are overgrown with ferns, moss and orchids.
We do lunch at stalls in the national park or we have a picnic lunch.
In the afternoon to the atmospheric Papua Bhuka Hotel, a little outside Pua with a beautiful view over rice fields and Doi Phu Kha.
No interest in temples? In Nan they are different, the native Mlabri community
After breakfast, we leave for Nan to visit various impressive temples in the rest of the morning (including Wat Phumin, Wat Phra That Chae Haeng.)
Lunch in Nan. From Nan we drive to Chiang Muan and visit a Mlabri settlement and Hmong village.
Then we drive to Phayao via Chiang Muan and Dok Kham Tai. Enter the Arunothai Hotel at the Phayao Lake.
In the afternoon we make a boat trip to an island with a Buddhist sanctuary under construction and offer a small sacrifice. Dinner (not included) of your choice in restaurant at the lake.
Waterfall in wild nature, falls for young lady Kaeo. It’s another day today
Enjoy local breakfast and then to Wat Khon Kham, the most famous temple of the city with a huge Buddha statue and a bizarre sculpture garden. Visit workshops where granite jacks and mortars are manufactured at the lake.
Through a pendulum road through the mountains we drive to Wang Nuea’s beautiful Wang Kaeo waterfall. Via Mae Krachan we go to the Chiang Rai Hot Spring where we have lunch.
Then we will stop at Chiang Mai on the way to the spiritual homes dedicated to Nang Kaeo with sacrifices of fallussen. Over the H118 direction Chiang Mai. Before Doi Saket we once again stroll into a quiet country road and drive to the beautiful Mueang On cave and a revered tree-lined trunk.
The last part of the highway to Chiang Mai, back in the “civilized world”, you will definitely remember this special trip through a lesser-known but very fascinating world.
